How Bucks CC is working for you
By County Cllr Tricia Birchley

As I write the countryside is at its zenith: the blossom is spectacular, the flowers vibrant in colour and lambs are to be seen enjoying the sunshine.

The downside of course is the shortage of water and we must all be prudent in conserving supplies this summer.

May’s Parish Annual Meeting was packed with residents rightly voicing their reservations about the new speed limits. Once the results of the questionnaire enclosed with the Newsletter are known I hope a walkabout can be arranged to discuss the principal areas of concern.

The County Council has now withdrawn its proposals to change the entry arrangements to Dr Challoner’s in 2007. Another ‘bulge’ year is not anticipated until 2010 and happily youngsters from The Lee will not be disadvantaged. After much discussion it has been decided that a new consultation will be launched including parents, schools and all concerned to ensure an equitable solution for entry in 2009.

‘Getting Closer to Communities’ is a new initiative launched by the County Council to work more closely with the parishes. This means parish councils meeting together to identify their needs and influence the services we receive. Already under discussion are roads, education and the proposed Chesham health zone. Eventually it is hoped that the Primary Care Trust, the Police and the District Council will develop integrated local services with the County Council.

Several residents are in contact with me over local issues and I am happy to be contacted on 01296 621138.

Speed limits: now you can tell it straight
By Barnaby Usborne
Chairman, The Lee Parish Council

You will receive a questionnaire with the July Newsletter asking for your views on a number of issues connected with the new speed limit signs and road markings. We apologise for asking you to complete this but we know that many of you feel strongly and unless we can quantify your views the Parish Council cannot act on your behalf. The County Council team will be asking the Parish Council for its views shortly.

The team will be monitoring speeds in the central Chilterns area over the next few weeks to compare these with figures they obtained before the limits were put in place. They will also be trying out a new vehicle-activated sign, a form of unmanned SID (sounds like a eunuch to me!) to encourage drivers to observe the speed limits.
