Weather turns up trumps for Open Gardens
John & Margarte Glanfield By Trish Swain

The weather the week before 28th May was far from promising – gusty winds and nearly three inches of rain (the wettest May for 25 years apparently). Down at Swan Bottom, contingency plans were made: thanks Bernard Tomkins for the loan of the scaffold boards for the car park and Bryan Hart for being on hand in your tractor to tow cars out!

Sunday dawned dry and dull and thankfully became sunnier and warmer as the afternoon progressed. The 529 visitors (not including children) had lots to see – the peculiar weather meant that there were still masses of bluebells as well as all the late spring flowers. Total takings were £3421.98, with the Church raising about £800 from the teas.

Tim, Judy, Jon and I would like to thank everyone who helped and special thanks to Alison Weir for co-ordinating the teas. The share to the National Gardens Scheme is divided between Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Relief, National Trust bursaries for trainee gardeners and other charities.
