Nature is full of surprises By Reina Free It is already June and as I walk along Kings Lane it struck me especially the abundance of blossom on the wild cherry, apple and plum trees. Never before have I seen such lavish abundance, especially as the sun shone. I was overwhelmed by such amazing beauty. How very generous of God The Creator. Yet this period is only short, the bluebells already faded yet replaced by masses of cow parsley (one of my favourites). The hawthorn could hardly wait to also burst into blossom. Along the verges the ‘curly-wurlies’ of the ferns are spiralling out, and the honeysuckle almost in bloom along with a beautiful pink wild rose. What a glorious happy-making season this is. In the top of the oak tree in the garden of Hedgerow Cottage a thrush is singing, a symphony of melodious notes, one part quite high. I still hear him as far as the holly tree and beyond. The nature reserve I thought this year was smaller, one part already white with marguerites like a lace tablecloth. But now I am not so sure as next to it interesting plants are coming up. Nature is full of surprises and wonderfulness – the emphasis on ‘fullness’. The blossom of the cherry trees has been drifting away on the morning breeze and for a moment I thought it was snowing. Yet the joy of it all is that with caring carefulness for our world each year we can look forward that it will happen all over again. Now isn’t that something to be really happy about? |
