The end of a successful cricket season By Andy Devoy
As the cricket season draws to a close it’s time to reflect on a very
successful summer for The Lee Cricket Club. The future well-being of the club looks bright as our Colts section goes from strength to strength. The end of season awards evening was a huge success on a warm and sunny September evening with 130 medals handed out and various trophies for players of the season, most improved players, best batters etc. Some of the older children are now beginning to play in the senior sides which should ensure that there will be a village side in The Lee for many years to come. There are many village teams in the local area that have folded due to a lack of senior players. It’s pleasing to know that won’t happen to us. The only worrying thing is that some of the old duffers like me may not get a game – time to get some practice in, fellas. One of the most pleasing aspects of the summer was three of our young players being selected to play for the County U10s side for next season. A great honour for the club and a compliment to the coaching skills of everyone involved in our Colts section. The senior teams have also had a successful season. The Saturday 1st team finished second in their league and the 2nd team also showed a marked improvement in their league position compared to previous seasons. A winning streak for the Sunday team was brought to a dramatic end in September when we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in spectacular style against Little Missenden. Batting first, we amassed 263 runs from our 40 overs. However we failed to take our chances in the field and their opener scored 140 not out to see his team home. Everybody is looking forward to the winter break. As I mentioned in my last article, a lot of hard work goes into making the club successful. Thanks to everyone for the time and effort they put in. Give yourselves a pat on the back. |
