Our County Councillor reportsBy Tricia Birchley Following your responses to the questionnaire on speed limits, Barnaby Usborne and I visited the areas of particular concern within the parish together with Chris Schwier from Bucks County Council Transportation Department. Chris is hopeful that the 30 mph limit into Chartridge can be moved closer to the village, in other words the other side of the Conference Centre but still protecting children walking to school. The speed of traffic at Kings Ash is also a concern and I know many of you felt that it was anomalous that the speed of traffic here should be 40 mph compared to 30 mph towards Chartridge. Traffic regulations are costly to amend and the plan will be to make all the necessary adjustments in Area 2, the first locally to receive the new speed limits, in one go. My visits to the open gardens weekend in May, the summer Fête in mid-June and the Flower Show in July enabled me to see at first hand the many talents in our community. The flower arrangements, vegetables, jam and home produce were superb not to mention the many stalls, dog show and of course everyone helping behind the scenes without whom these events would never take place. Many of you will have heard of the Government’s resource equalisation, meaning money raised through Council Tax in Buckinghamshire is diverted away to the East and West Midlands this year, where some councils have found it unnecessary to raise local taxes. It seems grossly unfair that our county which is rated an excellent four star council is technically ‘on the floor’. We have the right to expect the promised school improvements and better roads, which now face large cuts in spending. The glorious summer weather has now cooled down and gardening has become easier as the lawns regain their colour thanks to heavy thunderstorms. Relying on the watering can became tedious but the many meals eaten in the garden were a joy. I look forward to hearing from you on County Council matters when I can raise your concerns at County Hall. Enjoy the rest of the Summer! Tricia Birchley 01296 621138. |
