Clerk’s Corner

By Viv Robins

Speed limits The Parish Council discussed the results of the questionnaire on speed limits at its meeting on September 12th.

Given the fact that only 20% of those eligible replied, and that the views expressed were varied and sometimes contradictory, the Council felt that no clear message emerged overall. But there was a near-universal desire to see the 30 mph sign on Chartridge Lane moved closer to the school and the roundel at the entrance to The Lee moved out of the conservation area (further down towards the cricket pitch). Shaun Pope, Transport Officer at Chiltern District Council, will now be asked to make these adjustments.

Parish Councillors also expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the whole process had been handled. They felt the CDC would have done better to have introduced an experimental scheme straight off, and then act on comments received, rather than spending a lot of time and money on employing consultants and otherwise preparing the ground in advance. That meant they now had little or no money left to modify the current scheme in the light of local reaction. All this – and more – will be conveyed in my letter to Mr. Pope!

Action on flooding
Following my report in June about the persistent flooding problem on Swan Bottom Road outside the Vicarage, Bucks C.C. have now decided to dig a large drainage ditch in the field to the west of the road which should allow the water to run off. The road will need to be closed while the work is carried out – watch this space for further details.
