Ancient trees, our living heritage: Half day conference There are many special trees throughout the Chilterns and some of these are ancient. They have done well to survive such hazards over the centuries as disease, man, squirrels, grazing animals and competition from other plants. Because of this the ‘Special Trees and Woods Project’ is celebrating ancient trees in the Chilterns with a free conference in High Wycombe, aimed at those who are interested in the subject, both amateur and professional alike. Co-ordinator Liz Manley says: “We are delighted that Ted Green, a national expert, can join us as a guest speaker. Ted is a colourful and charismatic speaker, passionate about this unusual heritage and is making his presentation unmissable for anyone interested in special trees and woods of the Chilterns. For the past fifteen years, Ted has fought ceaselessly for greater awareness and protection for ancient trees and he was one of the founding members of the Ancient Tree Forum. In 2003 he was awarded an MBE for his work.” This half day conference is being held at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, High Wycombe on 25th November 2006. Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, it’s free to all interested delegates. However, places are limited, so please book by calling 01844 355525 or go to www.chilternsaonb.org/special for a booking form or e-mail lmanley@chilternsaonb.org for more information. |
