Picking up pieces of mosaic
Chiltern District Council’s Arts Officer David Gardner has confirmed that
the Lee Common School mosaic does belong to them – but also that they have
no money to do anything with it! He says that the artworks created for the
Heritage Trail were specifically designed so as not to require any significant
maintenance, and the school mosaic is the only one of those 15 that needs
attention.However he suggests one solution might be for the ownership of the mosaic to be transferred from the CDC to a local organisation which would be eligible to make applications for funding (for example from the Lottery) to meet maintenance costs. The Parish Council will be taking up the matter with the new headmistress, once in situ, and the P.T.A.
