Save Our Bells!
To the Editor

Word has it that the excitement is such at recent weddings at both churches that the bell in each has been put out of action. It’s the over-hearty pulling of the ropes that does it. Bill Pearce got Brian White of Appleton, the bell hangers, to attend and prescribe remedies:-
The Parish Church: This bell is 700 years old, precious and wearing thin where it matters i.e. at the clapper. From his 35 ft high scaffolding Nick Humphreys the builder made good the broken rope to reactivate the bell. Months will elapse before this ancient bell can be taken down and turned 90° to prevent cracking, it having worn thin at the clapper.

The Old Church: Here again over-enthusiastic rope pulling wrenched it off pulleys inside the roof. Enter our hero again. Nick Humphreys erected scaffolding and, under Brian White’s guidance, crawled in and made the necessary adjustments.
Important message: PLEASE -  a gentle little pull is the order of the day!

What Anniversary?
To the Editor

Despite all the talk of anniversaries, the December Newsletter will not be the quinquennial (or any other –ennial) but the quinquagesimal edition.
Just thought I’d mention it.

To the Editor
David and I would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ for all the cards, flowers, gifts and letters sent to us over the last few weeks since David’s stroke.

David is now able to walk properly, and feeling is returning to his hand, arm and leg. However, his speech will take a while to return to normal and he will not be working until the end of January.

We very much value your thoughts and prayers and we are grateful to those of you who have helped or have offered to help with transport for myself and the children. Thank you to you all.

Lots of love from Penny, David, Emma, Robert and Charlotte.
