Wheelie bin Waste Services: Update on the roll out of twin bin and alternate week collection scheme
By Gill Harding, Directorate of Waste Services, Chiltern District Council

There are now over 16,000 properties which receive an alternate week twin bin collection scheme, that’s nearly 45% of the whole district. Residents receive a green bin for their kitchen and garden waste and a black bin for the material that cannot be composted.

Due to budget restrictions and current capacity restrictions at the composting facility where we compost the kitchen and garden waste, no decision has been made regarding a timetable for future roll out of the scheme. It is unlikely that any further roll out will take place until after 2007.

When it is known what the timetable for roll out will be, affected residents will be notified through leaflets and the Chiltern Chronicle. Prior to any roll out, roadshows will take place and any properties which are unsuitable for wheeled bins will be visited and alternative arrangements made.

With your continued help, Chiltern is on course to achieve a recycling rate of over 40% by the end of the year. In your area we provide a boundary collection of glass bottles and jars on a four weekly basis and a fortnightly collection of mixed paper (Timetable)

If you do not have a box, or if your box is damaged, please contact Waste management on 01494 732053.  Your local recycling centre is at The Gate public house.
