Clerk’s corner

By Viv Robins

Good news for the New Year – all the Oxford Street allotments are now taken! For the first time since I took over as clerk every available inch of ground is being diligently worked (though probably not all at the same time). It will certainly improve the look of the place, as will a new resolve on the part of all dog-owners to clear up after their pets. Incidentally there have been a few problems recently caused by local dogs worrying sheep (see letter on page 5) – it is against the law for dogs to be off the lead when livestock are around.

Drug Prevention Club
You may have seen a couple of posters around recently advertising the Drug Prevention Club at Chesham Town Hall. The club offers support to friends and relatives of those with a drug problem and provides information about relevant services available in the area. It meets once a month and for the dates of future meetings either look out for the posters or contact the CDC Community Safety Officer Sarah Holt on 732070.
Best buildings in Chilterns

The closing date for entries to this year’s Chiltern Buildings Design Awards is March 1st 2007. The scheme is run by the Chilterns Conservation Board and the Chiltern Society, and you can nominate any suitable building provided you have the permission of the owner and can supply a photo and names of the architects/designers and builders. Further details from Colin White, Chilterns Conservation Board Planning Officer, on 01844 355507.

Listen for alarm bells
Bucks Trading Standards have sent out an alert about an alarm company which is currently targeting local households, mainly by phone but also occasionally through doorstep calls. Part of their sales technique is to fraudulently claim that their system has been approved by the police and/or Trading Standards, whereas neither body ever endorses a specific company. Unfortunately Trading Standards aren’t naming this company for legal reasons! But if you get such an approach please report it to them on 01296 383212 or the Police on 08458 505505.
