By Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council Sad to relate John Chudley is resigning as a Parish Councillor at the May elections, since he and Gill are planning to move down to the New Forest to be nearer their daughter. John has served on the Council for over 15 years, most recently as Deputy Chairman, and will be a hard act to follow. I for one will be all at sea carrying out our regular allotment inspections on my own, not knowing a weed from a turnip top. However the Parish Council’s loss could be someone else’s opportunity: why not consider standing in the 3rd May elections (when Chiltern District Councillors are also being elected)? If you’re wondering exactly what Parish Councils do I have the answer conveniently to hand in the form of a booklet produced by the National Association of Local Councils in conjunction with the Electoral Commission, which explains all about the role of local councillors. If you’re interested I can let you have a copy – or if you want to jump straight in the deep end I can supply a nomination form! Nominations must be in by noon on 4th April. Tennis court By Roger Morgan Happily since April last year sufficient funds have been raised to provide for the purchase of a new net, a bench seat, and, as mentioned in the last Newsletter, the cost of surface cleaning. The umpire's chair was very kindly donated last year by a local resident. Many thanks to all those who turn up and play in all kinds of weather –with your continued support it should be possible to maintain the court in a good state of repair. |
