cricket Onward and upward for Lee Cricket Club
By Jon Swain, Chairman

The beautiful Easter weather has stirred the slumbering cricketer into thoughts of white creases on fresh green grass, the mellow sound of leather upon willow, and all the other sensory delights of the quintessential English game. The young cricketers are desperate to get started, to flourish those new bats obtained in the dark months of winter, and emulate the feats of the pyjama-clad heroes of the World Cup. Some of the older ones are hoping that yet another winter will not have proved a bridge too far.

News from the Manor Park is that the ground received a thorough makeover as part of the Nat West ‘Cricket Force’ weekend at the end of March. Free tee shirts were supplied and volunteers gave up their time to prepare for the new season. The clubhouse has been re-decorated, the outfield and square thoroughly rolled, and all we need is more good weather for the first matches.

The season was set to begin on 21st and 22nd April, with games to limber up for the start of the league. The Colts were due to be in action as well, and we all look forward to their incredible enthusiasm, hoping that the loss of net facilities, as laid out in this Newsletter previously, will be a short-term inconvenience only. You will have read the saga for yourselves, and I say no more at this stage.

The Club relies on the dedication and hard work of people who give up their time for the benefit of others, with selfless generosity. A village needs such people at its heart. Cricket has stood for many qualities felt to be beneficial in life, and long may it be played on the Manor Park.

If you would like to play, please contact the Club Captain, Andy Devoy, whose number is 837256. Players of all qualities are welcome. Our aim is for people to enjoy themselves.
