The big news is that after a gap of 10 years the Village Shop is back in business! On 22nd April the aisles of Waitrose were deservedly deserted as punters flocked to the Parish Hall portakabin for the opening ceremony. Our man with his nose pressed up against the glass, John Fortgang, gives his account this month. There’s been a slightly less widespread welcome for news that Franco and Victoria Parola are thinking of applying for a new licence which could mean more music at the Cock & Rabbit – although as Barnaby Usborne explains, the story still has a good way to go. Along with the new there’s plenty on old favourites such as The Fête, Flower Show and Cricket Club, together with a more recent arrival on the social scene – the annual barbecue in aid of the Parish Hall. We also bring you the first walk of the year from the intrepid Chris Syer, perfectly timed to coincide with the early onset of summer (although there’s always a chance it might have gone away again by the time you read this). Copy for next month to my alter ego John Fortgang please! |
