Exclusive: we name names on the new Lee parish council
By Mystic Viv

The local elections may still be a few days away, but I can already reveal a large part of the line-up of your new council. That’s because, with only four nominations for seven vacancies, the elections for The Lee are set to be uncontested. So here’s all you need to know about those men and women who look forward to being buttonholed by you in the street after 3rd May:

Usborne
Barnaby Usborne as been a Parish Councillor since 1995 and Chairman since 1999. Among the many other hats he has worn in the course of his 19 years in The Lee have been as Deputy Editor of the Newsletter, member of the Parish Hall Committee and self-styled quartermaster of the Chiltern Society, looking after their tools and equipment.
Fortgang
John Fortgang is another Renaissance Man, currently Co-Editor of the Newsletter and moving spirit behind the revival of the village shop. Previously his career was in the law, first as a solicitor and then a district judge. He has lived in the area for 25 years and his wife Eileen is also a well-known figure, having taught at Lee Common School for 15 years.

Stacey
Elizabeth Stacey has been a parish councillor since November 1995 when she replaced her husband Andrew, who sadly died very suddenly in September of that year. A lifelong interest in education led to her becoming a governor of both Lee Common and Chesham High Schools. Elizabeth has also been a member of Chiltern District Council since 1995.

Lewis
Karel Lewis joined the Parish Council in 2002. For 15 years she ran the village shop in Oxford Street with her late husband John, until its closure in 1997. Since then Karel has been much involved with the Parish Hall, serving on the committee, helping to organise the 100 Club raffle and playing a big part in its refurbishment.

But what of the other three Councillors? Alas their faces cannot be shown because we don’t yet know who they are going to be. But the first action of the new Council on 8th May will be to co-opt them, so watch out for details in next month’s Newsletter.
