Barbecue
By Pat and Tony Lea

Well, they say the sun shines on the righteous, so the 125 people who attended the Parish Hall Barbecue on 2nd June must be feeling very good about themselves. After the torrential rain earlier in the week we were blessed with a beautiful evening and views of Venus and Jupiter courtesy of Barry Middleton and his telescope.

Once again the evening appears to have been a great success with many compliments for the food following the change of menu to a Hog Roast. The raffle and the auction contributed greatly to the profit for the evening which should be around £2,700 when all the bills are paid. Particular thanks to David Jones who donated his boat for two separate days and which helped to raise £1,300 for the auction.

The marquee came in for many compliments and thanks to Jackie Gold for the flower arrangements which contributed greatly to the overall effect. Thanks also to those who provided support on Saturday and Sunday, particularly Mary Stewart-Liberty, Tracy Knowles, Kathryn Rice, Pat Mitchell and Debbie Sims. There was also a fantastic display of desserts provided by a number of people and they were consumed with great delight by everyone. It would of course be churlish not to pass on from everyone our thanks to Pat Lea for her organisational skills and we look forward to next year’s event.

Sunday morning’s highlight was being woken by the sound of bottles and glasses being moved around. At first I thought it was a fox rummaging in the tent but it turned out to be Peter Garner three hours ahead of the working party.
