john ford Clerk’s corner
By Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council

I am pleased to report that the Parish Council is finally up to its full complement – our seventh councillor, elected at our meeting last month, is John Ford.

Although a relative newcomer to the parish itself, he has long been active in the area, serving as a Chiltern District Councillor from 1995-99 and 2000-2007. He was the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Chesham and Amersham at the last two general elections but is happily setting aside his political affiliations to take up his new role.

Name that pothole
No doubt you will have been gripped as I was by the horror story related by Tim Bridges on the letters page this month. But if there’s one message to be drawn from it it’s the absolute necessity of reporting potholes as quickly as possible to the Highways Authority. If they don’t know about it, as Tim discovered the hard way, they can apparently wash their hands of responsibility for it.

men at work So the minute you spot a pothole or other road defect do contact Highways On Call on 0845 2302882 and they will log your call and give you a job reference number so you can track their progress in dealing with it.

I must say that in my experience they pick up the phone reasonably quickly and usually get round to doing the job within a couple of weeks, although admittedly I’ve never had cause to utter those two dread words: Potter Row
