By Jon Swain The Flower Show Committee never sleeps. All through the dark months of winter, members meet and plan to ensure the smooth running of the show itself, agree the schedules, organise the judges, book the attractions… and then it’s over to you, the good folk of The Lee, Lee Common, Potter Row, South Heath, Ballinger, Swan Bottom and Kings Ash, to take over the baton. So get hoeing those weeds, watering those veg, deadheading those roses (enough thanks, Ed) so that you can compete in the large number of classes available. Children: get your models made and entries sorted, and photographers – young and old – dig out your photos. Let’s hope the Agas and ovens are fired up to make bread, cakes and preserves. Chat up your chickens and sweet-talk your bees to add to the produce classes. Why not make a scarecrow to add to the flock / pack / fright / hoe-down of scarecrows that graced last year’s show? Here’s to 21st July and a fabulous village day – with something for everyone. |
