By Joy HeelsThe first half of the summer term our project was ‘growing’: the children planted beans, cress and sunflowers which they took home, and tomatoes, carrots and potatoes which we are growing in buckets. We plan to tip out the potatoes in a few weeks and count how many have grown from just one seed. Craft wise, they made potato prints, sewing cards of a leaf and a funny face grass head which was very successful; the children have said they have been cutting the grass hair. One of the parents brought in some baby chicks and some lambs which the children enjoyed feeding with bottles of milk. We took the children for a walk up the field at the back of the Parish Hall to see the bluebells; they liked climbing over the stile which must seem very high to them. We were invited to Lee Common School to watch the maypole dancing and afterwards we played with their toys. Thank you to all at the school, especially to the mums who made the cakes; they disappeared very quickly. Many thanks to Barnaby and Roger for fencing off the outdoor play area and all the committee members who helped clear the site. The children are now able to experiment with sand and water without worrying about spillages. At least one adult is always in attendance for the children’s protection. Congratulations to Suzanne on the birth of ‘Jacob’ on 23rd May; she will be back at the nursery in September. We are praying for good weather on 21st June which is our sports morning and the 5th July when we are planning a seaside day; more about these next time. |
