The mystery of the disappearing banners
By John Fortgang

On a sunny Sunday morning we all awoke to a changed world. Sights that we had grown to love and depend on had disappeared. Everything was somehow different. What had happened? What had caused this disconcerting disorientation? Then suddenly it dawned on us; those friendly, welcoming banners telling us about our wonderful shop had gone. In their place there were… empty gaps.

Nothing daunted, the shop committee sat in emergency session. There was only one thing to do. Call in Inspector Barnaby! He was quickly on the case. Even as you read this he is hot on the scent. The usual suspects have already been interviewed and are no doubt quaking in their green wellies waiting for the full majesty of the law to come down on his/her/their heads. Or maybe soon a body will be discovered in the middle of the Village Green wrapped in one of said banners, pierced through with the shop scissors…
But in the meantime replacements have arrived and now all is as it was before.

shop queue And the shop goes from strength to strength. Every day brings new and exciting products to taste. Succulent meat from a local farm at Peterley; not just beer from the Chiltern Brewery but chutneys, sausages and cheeses. Local cakes and pastries. Exotic locally laid eggs. There is no limit to which our team of buyers will not go. Just give them the scent of something that you like and they’re off like greyhounds. Not for nothing is Shop @ The Parish Hall also known as the Mini Fortnums. Management are now seriously considering whether to require all those working there to wear morning dress.

We now have a chip and pin machine so that it is now much easier to spend more money, You won’t have to waste valuable spending time fishing around for change, or waiting for the person behind the till to work out how to open it – and you can have cash back too.

Remember that there is still a need for more volunteers to work there (although a strong resistance to temptation is obviously required).

And we now need to appoint an auditor or auditors; if you are a registered auditor and would like to help in this way, or there are two people who could act as lay auditors, please let me know (837349).
