Lee Church Fête
By Catherine Larmour

Although it feels like an awfully long time since 16th June, The Lee Church Fête committee hope it’s not too late to extend a very big thank you to all the people who
gave up their time to help us have such an excellent afternoon (and, of course, to all who came and emptied their pockets at the various stalls!). The fete fête made a fantastic £5,000, matching  Mrs Stewart-Liberty’s very generous donation, making this vital day of fund-raising a great success.

Mind you, it was a bit touch and go weather-wise. The stalls and gazebos were put up with enormous black clouds looming, and the forecast was a bit dismal. Fortunately, the heaviest of the rain kept off until mid-fête, allowing the Maypole dancers to stay dry, and just giving us a torrential ten minutes that soon cleared and didn’t put a damper on the fun and games. It was hard to tell whether the soggier visitors had been caught without an umbrella, or whether they’d just overdone the Kick and Splash…

Many thanks again to everyone.
