Summer has finally arrived and although the weather was far from great in June and July we should be grateful not to have suffered the problems experienced by many in Gloucestershire, South Yorkshire and other parts of the country with the recent flooding. As I write this column our attention is focused on the ‘Foot and Mouth’ outbreak in Surrey – let us hope that by the time you read this it is but a distant memory. The Lee Summer Season continues. We have a supplement on the Church Fête and the Flower Show both of which survived the weather’s attempts to bring them to a premature end. We also have a chance to celebrate our young cricketers’ triumph in the Bucks Under-11s Cup. This is a magnificent achievement and a tribute to the club, coaches and helpers and much more enjoyable than the recent spat over the nets. We have a fascinating article from Peter Hall on moths accompanied by some magnificent photographs – apologies Peter but black and white does not do them justice. For everyone who is tired of fast food and take-aways I recommend, ‘Times remembered’. I cannot understand why The Lee Old Church Trust offers only fish and chips when a double helping of fried pigs’ ears or rook pie could be conjured up. The Pothole saga rumbles on and we carry a report on the meeting in the Parish Hall. We also received a detailed response from Cllr Letheren, of Bucks County Council after the last newsletter went to print; we have not published it as we believe the points she raised have been dealt with in the report of the meeting. Next month’s copy to John Fortgang please by 9th September. |
