Here are the facts: I did not ‘match’ the wonderful financial result of the Church Fête.

I could not go to the opening and before I was picked up to go out to lunch at 12:15 I gave an envelope to Mr Leslie with a cheque for £5,000 within. I was unaware till three days later how much the hard-working committee and team had made – a result I think is admirable considering the terrible weather. So I did not ‘match’ – I simply made a contribution in advance.

We have asked the Royal Mail if they would provide a post box for the shop. Although there is no post office there the shop sells stamps and could accept parcels and be a dropping off point when the householder is out.

The Royal Mail is willing to help (at no cost to us) but as Lee Common already has two boxes – a pillar box by the Old Shop and a small box in Ballinger Road opposite Sly Corner – one of these would have to be removed. They have asked us to consult residents.

There are two options: either move the Sly Corner box to the Parish Hall, or to move this one to the Old Shop and transfer the bigger pillar box to the Hall. The Sly Corner box is little used and is inconvenient for car drivers but it is small. The Royal Mail has asked for our views. Where do we need the biggest box; the Old Shop in Oxford Street or at the Parish Hall by the new shop? Does anyone have strong views?
