By Trish Swain

Many thanks to Glenys Groves and Gordon Cumming for a most enjoyable musical evening on 1st July. The sun was shining and many of the audience went home with a song in their heart and their requests fulfilled.
On Sunday 8th Oct Henry Wemyss from Sotheby’s is to give a talk on William Callow at 7:30 pm. Tickets are £7.50 and available from Committee members or telephone 837752.

William Callow was a famous Victorian watercolour artist specialising in landscapes, maritime scenes and buildings. His work spanned the Victorian era and he exhibited more than 1,400 pictures over his 70-year career. He was a favourite of the French royal family and taught some of the Rothschilds. Queen Victoria also purchased his work.

He moved to Potter Row in 1855 and lived there until his death at the age of 95 in 1908. Paintings of the Old Church executed by Callow are owned by the County Museum.

The Lee Old Church Quiz will be held in Ballinger Hall on Sat 13th Oct. at 7:30 pm. Tickets are £10 each and include a fish and chip supper. There will be a licensed bar.
Tickets/tables are available from 837501/837752.
