The course of eventsBy Revd David Burgess As often happens at this time of year, this month’s Newsletter contribution is for information rather than thought or discussion. There are quite a few new or continuing initiatives taking place in the churches in the autumn, so I thought it would be good to highlight them here. They fall under the general heading of ‘study groups’, but I think each offers something different. Firstly, Reina Free has run the Hilltop House Fellowship for four or five years at her house in King’s Ash, The Lee, and this is continuing through the autumn on alternate Wednesday evenings at 8.00 pm, looking at key Bible passages. Please contact Reina (837409) for further details and meeting dates. Secondly, we have a second series of ‘Life – What do we do with it?’ The first of these will have already taken place by the time this Newsletter appears, but the second takes place on Wednesday 10th October at 8.00 pm at Lee Common Methodist Church. Individual Christians speak about what their faith means to them, and again this takes place on alternate Wednesdays. As before, details are on Diary pages – alternatively you can contact Judy Hart (837328) for further details. Thirdly, a slightly more formal study group is starting at the St Leonards Church. Called ‘Why We Worship’, it will be looking at Christian worship (mainly, but not entirely, the Communion Service) in the light of the Bible and our worship experience. Again these meetings take place fortnightly, on Thursdays at 8.00 pm, starting on 4th October. Please contact Ivor or myself for details. Fourthly, I’m delighted to say that a new group for young people (11-14) has started at The Lee. It’s grown out of the older Sunday School age group, and meets each month on the Thursday prior to The Lee’s Sunday School Communion. This is encouraging for the young people themselves, and also because some of them have expressed an interest in helping at the Sunday School. Lastly, another Deanery Confirmation is shortly to take place – I’m not sure whether we’ve recovered from the last one yet! This is on Tuesday 20th November at 8.00 pm at St Peter and St Paul, Great Missenden. Because of the relatively short notice, confirmation classes will almost certainly have started by the time you read this, but it won’t be too late to join if you are interested – please contact Ivor or myself. Whether or not you are involved in these courses, please pray for those taking part and those leading and organising the groups. They represent the most comprehensive opportunity to share and study the Christian faith in my time in the Four Parishes, and I would like to thank all those whose work will ensure the success of these activities. |
