End of season
By Andrew DevoyThe last Friday night of the season was the ‘Presentation’ evening and it was a huge success. Over a hundred children were there to receive medals and trophies on a beautiful late summer’s evening.
The presentations were followed by a disco that was popular with the children and some of the parents who were either carried away by the atmosphere or more likely doing what all good parents do at weddings, dance when they’ve had too many. The only blot on the evening was one of the young players taking a tumble whilst playing with his friends and breaking his collarbone. An ambulance whisked him off but I’m glad to say he was (relatively) OK and back at school on the Monday. It has been a fantastic season for our Colts; the highlight of which, as regular readers will know, was winning the Bucks County U11 Knockout Cup – one of the greatest days in the club’s long history.
The Colts section continues to grow and next year we will welcome new players
(we currently have 158 junior members), as well as hopefully putting out more
teams in the league. In addition to this we can and do play friendlies for
children as young as eight. In order for this to happen we need extra helpers,
whether coaching or managing a team. It is very rewarding and the children
love their cricket. So please come forward and help. My e-mail address is
andydevoy@yahoo.co.ukThe season is drawing to a close for the adults. It is fair to say it has been a mixed season with the Saturday 1st team needing a win in the last game to avoid the ‘drop’. I’m glad to say they did win the last match against Bovingdon. The Saturday 2nd and Sunday teams have enjoyed some great games and the encouraging thing is to see some of the older boys from the Colts section playing in senior matches. In a couple of years us oldies will struggle to get in the team (that’s the aim) so I think its time to consider an umpiring course.
On Saturday 29th September we are having an inter club tournament with teams made up of Colts and senior players. It should be a lot of fun so – if you are reading this before 29th – please come up and watch. It starts at noon and should finish about 6 pm. We will then be doing the presentations for the Colts League teams followed by the senior awards. The bar is open all day so we will see you then.
