Aid collectionsTo the Editor This is very late, but I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all my volunteers who collected this year; we raised £491.31. Janet Mayberry was unable to be the co-ordinator this year, due to family descending on her and I thought it would be a shame not to cover this very needy cause. Jan Moseley Lee Common
Admiral
HoweTo the Editor Poor Admiral Howe! Every time I visit The Lee I am saddened by the way the poor chap is treated. It must be unbearable to remain staring insanely upwards into the roof for year after year. I understand that he was a famous sea captain and his statue was once the figurehead on the navy’s last wooden ship. Then he would have been upright and gazing bravely at the horizon. I don’t know why he is now tipped over backwards, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if he could be returned to his commanding position so that he could peek over the hedge and, once more, control the approaches to The Lee. Andrew Usborne Visitor from Australia Times remembered To the Editor The people mentioned in ‘Times remembered’ (September Newsletter) were BIGNELL, not Brignall – Ted, Leonard and Lily – the best. Elizabeth Stewart-Liberty The Lee Apologies for this error: Ed. |
