pothole Potholes… over to you
By the Editorial Team

We can all sit back this winter and once again wait for the degeneration of our Parish roads… or we can vigorously protest as potholes begin to reappear, as they surely will.

The credibility gap between the aspirations of County Transportation Manager, Mark Averill, and the reality of the condition of our roads was clear to the parishioners who packed the Parish Hall to hear him speak (see September Newsletter).

Experience has shown us that the results of the County Council’s efforts so far haven’t exactly been anything that Buckinghamshire can be proud of. Maybe it is partly because they have neglected the issue for too long, maybe there are budgetary constraints; but the answer to what appears to be an ongoing problem clearly now rests with us.

If you spot a hole in the road that you think requires attention (and that won’t be too difficult will it?), then report it. Just pick up the phone and call Highways On Call on 0845 230 2882 or visit the County’s website: www.buckscc.gov.uk/hoc.

You can also now email the details of holes you have reported to the County, to our own village website. Simply email the information to potholes@thelee.org.uk along with a photograph as well if you want to. The information will then appear on a page of the website that is devoted to tracking the complaints made to the County Council about the state of our Parish roads. (Click here) That way we can all monitor just what is – and what is not – being done.

Remember, if we all keep the County Council on its toes, then hopefully they will keep our roads in good repair.
