The Lee W.I.
wi By Joyce Swain

The Lee W.I. met on Tuesday 11th September. After looking at the County Newsletter, noting outings on offer to Bath and London Lights/ Tutankahmun, we heard that our bank balance is healthy, owing to a very successful stall at the Flower Show, and a delightful ploughman's lunch at the home of member Tricia Usborne. Our thanks go to all who helped at these events.

We were then entertained by Mr Neil Rees, who gave us a talk on ‘The Czech Connection’. After living for a while in Pilsen, he was surprised to learn that wartime Czeckoslovakia had strong links with Buckinghamshire. The two most important politicians who escaped the Nazis came to stay in Aston Abbots and Chichiley House, with their secretaries and their committees. Benes and Jan Masaryk were here, and many local girls met their soldiers. Mr Rees said that his book had been translated into Czech and was a best seller!
