By Viv RobinsClerk to The Lee Parish Council The last remaining allotment available at Lee Common is one with a difference. The plot formerly belonging to John Chudley boasts two unusual features in the form of a huge willow bush and a vine which John will vouchsafe has yielded some very tasty grapes. No doubt there are many gardeners-cum-bibbers out there for whom this would be a highly attractive proposition. There are probably fewer people though who share Gill Chudley’s famed skills with willow and the Council is planning to remove the bush to turn the allotment back into a rentable proposition. But in the meantime if there’s anyone out there who has any use for it – please help yourself! Road signs raise hackles Following Iain Scotter’s letter, I investigated the background to the new road signs that have appeared on Red Lion Hill: it turns out that some-one living there requested permission to change the name of his house and thus alerted the Royal Mail and Chiltern District Council to the fact that the road was named on their respective data-bases – so the CDC decided to slap a couple of road signs on it to ‘bring things up to date’! Meanwhile the Parish Council has requested a couple of road signs to identify Lee Clump Road, which was recently named as the postal address of both the Parish Hall and the Cricket Club. This was decided at our meeting on 11th September but I have been asked to mention it again here because, in the brutal words of a friend and neighbour: “No-one reads the minutes of the Council meetings.” Ah me! |
