bonfire Bonfire and fireworks
By Tony Lea

To put it mildly the sight of rain at 5:30 pm did cause a little panic!!
However this passed by quickly and the evening was fine and dry. There was another great attendance for what is now a firm fixture in the village social cycle.

The bonfire was of mammoth proportions due in part to the disposal of our old kitchen that had been in the garage for three years. Other residents took the opportunity to dispose of their unwanted garden rubbish as well. Many thanks to Justin Lewis for his work in the construction of the fire and to Trevor Pearce for his efforts in building and lighting.

Many people were complimentary about the fireworks that were so ably organized by Stephen Humphreys and his son Jonathon. Thanks also to Chris Nevill and the Scouts for their hot dog work and to all who helped serve food and drinks.

We are grateful to Barbara Nelson for allowing us the use of her field. As a result of everyone’s efforts the evening raised just over £1500 for the Parish Hall. Finally, thank you to all who supported the evening and helped to make it a great success.
