From the Editor
Editor or team? By Gilbert Nockles

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, please put a penny in the old man’s hat, if you haven’t got a penny… well enough of that. In this world of 24/7 consumerism it’s hardly surprising there is no penny for the old man’s hat particularly when the major stores in this country bring out their Christmas displays in September, the cards and presents are wrapped in October and the festive lights are up in November. There is more to life than this and I recommend to you the articles from both David Burgess and Jon Swain in this edition.

In this issue we have reports on the activities of young folks in the community. We should all celebrate the successes of the Scouts in their soccer tournament and the visit to Lord’s of the victorious young cricketers, but take a few moments to reflect on how the Nursery is striving to help the youngest in our community to develop an awareness and understanding of the multicultural society in which we live.

Colin Sully is showing great stamina and has produced another Quizzical-Lee for us and amongst the letters to the Editor is a missive from Massachusetts. We have another delightful and thought-provoking article from Reina Free and some observations from our County Councillor on the potential consequences of the significant increase in population in the Vale of Aylesbury that is now taking place.

The village social season continues to hum along. The bonfire night, another roaring success, raised an impressive sum for the Parish Hall, and in December we have a Christmas Concert, the Third Thursday Afternoon Tea and the New Year’s Eve Party in the Parish Hall. Details for these events inside this issue.

Viv Robins has announced that she is standing down as Editor of the Newsletter… more of that in the next issue! Please take a moment to read the article on Volunteering. All the activities that go on around us happen because people are prepared to get involved. As you think about the New Year resolutions take a moment to think about what you can do to help our community thrive and grow.

Copy for the February edition to John Fortgang by the 10th January.

Finally, from all on the editorial team our very best wishes for the festive season.
