Community Shop
By Barnaby Usborne

At last the monopoly suppliers of newspapers have agreed to take back the shop’s unsold papers. This will provide a significant boost to profitability. For the first six months of trading the distributors obliged us to purchase over £400 of newspapers a week and would not take returns; that cost us more than £1,400. It could have been much greater but for some deft footwork by Geoff.

Now that we are confident of the shop’s viability we are going ahead with the next phase: a permanent building. We have planning approval to extend the Parish Hall for a self-contained shop and tenders for the work will be going out soon.

In the meantime the shop is getting ready for Christmas with special December offers to encourage you to buy locally (see the insert in this Newletter for details). There will also be loyalty cards at the shop for the children.

The shop will be open every day over the holiday except Christmas Day itself, and newspapers will be delivered promptly as usual over the period. So don’t waste expensive fuel. Shop at The Lee Community Shop.
