St john The Lee Christmas tea
By Christine Kalveks

“Under certain circumstances there are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea”
(Opening words of Henry James’s The Portrait of a Lady).

This was certainly true of The Lee Christmas Tea hosted by Jenny Senior at Mulberry Lodge, The-Lee Manor, on 18th December, as part of the ‘3rd Thursday’ charity events. (See page 21 for the next function in February at The Courtyard, The Hale). Guests were offered a vast array of tempting homemade cakes and sandwiches by various ladies of The Lee wearing smart black and white attire reminiscent of Lyons Corner House in bygone years. Setting aside the bustle and stresses of the outside world, guests were invited to partake of a leisurely afternoon tea served by Diana Jones, June Lock, Leigh Porter, Jenny Senior, Margaret Thaiss and Alison Weir, whilst engaging in conversation with friends and neighbours.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion that raised £250 for St John the Baptist church.
