By Barnaby Usborne The New Year’s Eve Party organised by the marketing group for the Parish Hall proved a great success. This was not so much a new event as the revival of an ancient custom recalled by only the oldest of local residents with memories of the Youth Club. The new format worked well with mulled wine, lasagne, cheese, biscuits, port and sparkling wine provided by the organisers, and many delicious desserts donated by the elegant party from The Lee. The 51 participants brought their own wine for the table and in some cases even their own candelabra. Music played by that well known music maker ‘I Pod and The Amplifiers’ kept some intrepid dancers going to 2 am. Although the event was not planned as a fundraising function it did produce a surplus of nearly £400 for the Parish Hall. It was a great tribute to the hardworking ladies who made the evening so successful. I think they may have set a precedent. |
