Scout group By Marilyn Burrows Lee Common’s Scout Troop presented an amusing account of the summer camp experience to their parents and friends in the autumn term, showing photos of their leaders enduring the rides of Alton Towers as well as recalling the adventures of greenfield camping in the Derbyshire Peaks. Steve and Dougal officially stood down as leaders and Chris Nevill presented them with framed photos of themselves trekking in the snows of Snowdonia, together with a collection from parents. They continue to support the troop with skills evenings, the recent international cooking evening, night hike and discussion with the county caving squad based on hazards and safety. The Cub Pack focussed on red kites in the Chilterns, enjoying a talk by a volunteer from the Chiltern Conservation Board, and making mobiles. They were also fortunate to have a visit by our local Police Community Support Officers, explaining their role in the Great Missenden area and their liaison with local schools; and conservation and wildlife expert John Tyler brought in some fantastic slides of reptiles and insects. The term concluded with ‘no-cook Christmas cakes’ and a visit to the Wycombe Swan production of Cinderella. The Group records here, with much regret, the untimely death of our Beaver Scout Leader and good friend Kate McCree, who had been a committed and enthusiastic member of the leadership team for five years. A special presentation will take place with members of all sections, together with her family, in the spring. |
