From the Editor
Editor or team? By John Fortgang

As I write this in glorious spring sunshine although not halfway through February, we wonder what on earth the rest of the year has in store for us weather-wise.

There was a long queue outside the shop on the morning of Sunday the 17th February. The reason? To buy that day’s copy of the Mail on Sunday. Once again The Lee is front page news – well, page 17 actually. This time it is nothing to do with murders or mysterious bodies in bushes, but a real life drama, involving our cricket nets. And later in the day the village achieved even greater fame – we were on telly! Jon Swain has set out views in this month’s Newsletter, and we hope that others will contribute to the debate.

What The Lee has in store for us is a bit clearer as you will see from this month’s Newsletter. There is already the faint twittering of the Flower Show and the Church Fête, not to mention the rustling of wheelie bins in the hedgerows.

Already people are organising all the good things that we have come to expect during the spring and summer. So there is no reason to forget anything or to feel left out. Fill your diaries!

Less pleasant is reference to one or two break-ins locally, so keep your garages, sheds, outhouses etc. locked.
What I particularly like to see are the letters from residents from times gone by telling us what life was like then, as you will see from the letter from Maurice Salter and Jim Cuming’s article.

Next month’s Newsletter will be edited by Gilbert Nockles (862191); contributions to him please at gilbertnockles@hotmail.co.uk by the 7th March (the date of the next editorial meeting).
