The Lee W.I.By Joyce Swain
The Lee W.I. met on the 12th February at 2 pm in the Parish Hall.
After dealing with our business affairs, group meetings and so forth, we had a very interesting talk from Marie Cates. She retired early from a headship, and wishing to travel, she applied to Voluntary Service Overseas. After training (including learning to ride a motorbike, which she would need) Marie went to Uganda where she helped to organise several schools.
Her slides made us realise what a hard life the people there have, with AIDS pretty endemic. She shared that hard life – but keeps going back to visit! We were all impressed by her devotion to the friends she has made.
