wi The Lee W.I.
By Joyce Swain

The Lee W.I. met on 11th March at the Parish Hall. We heard of holidays, at Bath in August, Thursford for a Christmas spectacular and a day at Westonbirt Arboretum in May, arranged by the Bucks Federation.

We were encouraged to suggest healthy eating habits and to propose a picnic menu. Some members hope to visit the Wren Davis Farm at Prestwood later this year. We then had an interesting talk from Sally Botwright, a ‘Blue Badge Guide’, on the gardens of the City of London, largely parts of churchyards or old monastic places.

It was with sadness that we heard of the death of Queenie Foley, a former member. She lived for many years in The Lee, first at High Beeches, then at Firgrove, and lastly in Swan Bottom before going to Wendover. She was a founder of the Darby and Joan Club, which flourished in The Lee for many years. Queenie served in the WRNS during the war, and brought Naval efficiency to all her tasks! The Darby and Joan Christmas Dinner was always very well-organised.
