Leeside Nursery
By Suzanne Beaney

Our topic for the last half-term was transport. We had a visit from a police car and an ambulance; the children were a bit shy talking to the police man and woman and were not very forthcoming in trying on helmets etc., but they enjoyed getting in the car and setting off the siren.

They were more responsive to the paramedic and enjoyed bandaging each other, trying on the oxygen masks and trying on the big fluorescent jacket.

They also liked getting into the ambulance and again enjoyed the flashing lights and siren. It was the talk at Lee Common School gate, wondering what had happened at Leeside!

The children made paper aeroplanes and cars with wheels that went round and had group sessions talking about the things that transport us, such as bus, train, boat, tractor, boat and bicycle.

For Mothers’ Day daffodil bulbs had been planted earlier in the term and were just beginning to bud for presents for mums, and of course cards were made.

Parents enjoyed a coffee morning with the children singing songs about Easter, weather and transport. Each mum and some dads wore an Easter hat that their child had made for them and the children had an Easter hat parade.
Also Holi, a Hindu festival of spring, was remembered by decorating elephant masks with sequins and jewels.
Parents’ evening was well supported when parents came along to see how their child is getting on in the nursery.
We have had another busy term. A big thank you to my staff for all their help and support and we look forward to the summer term with some sun so that we can play on the grass.
