Jon Swain, Lee Cricket Club ChairmanIcy blasts from the north, hail, snow flurries, the heady smell of new mown molehills; it can mean only one thing: a new cricket season is upon us, with our first matches scheduled for the last two weekends in April. The Club is in good shape, although some of our plans for re-developing the pavilion and other facilities have been thwarted. Nonetheless, we have good reason for optimism; we have no fewer than five young cricketers representing the county and district at three different age levels. This is an astonishing achievement for the Club and the players concerned, and we wish them well. It is a reflection of the wonderful opportunities we can offer aspiring players, and the efforts of our volunteer coaches. We cater for all ages and abilities, and believe that we are a friendly and hospitable club, providing an invaluable village amenity. We have gratefully received a donation towards a bowling machine from Bucks County Council, thanks to local County Councillor Tricia Birchley, and are currently seeking to raise funds for alternative practice facilities and equipment. So if you feel like resurrecting your cricket career or beginning it now, or would like to be involved in any way in a forward- thinking, dynamic club, get in touch with us. Our details are available at www.theleecc.hitscricket.com. We are all looking forward to playing the wonderful quintessential English game, and wondering whether any of us will be bid for by the IPL (Indian 20/20 League) for next year, since Kevin Pietersen and Co. seem to be ruled out (or are they?). |
