Flower Show: Month four By P.G. (Paul) Woodhouse At 2:15pm most weekday afternoons, you will find me pottering in the greenhouse, listening to that great British institution – The Archers. British institutions should be treasured! The Lee Flower Show is such an institution. (I have heard that some people think that the Flower Show Committee should be locked up in an “institution”, but I do not subscribe to this point of view.) Nevertheless I must not digress from the reason for this article – The Lee Flower Show – please ensure that Saturday 19th July is kept free in your busy social life, as this is the day that the community event of the year takes place! The Lee Flower Show provides the venue for all the local clubs and societies to come together, to advertise, entertain and fundraise. This year the Art Tent is to be devoted to the local artistic community, of whom a lot feature in the Bucks Art Week. Also new attractions to the show this year are to be run by The Lee Cricket Club, Lee Common School, Great Missenden School and Ballinger Bombers Football Club, as well as all the old favourite stalls and attractions. The dictionary definition of community is “a joint or common ownership”, so it is your Flower Show. So let’s all go down to the greenhouse, turn the radio on and start preparing all the entries to make it the best Flower Show ever. |
