By Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council The best and the worst of people were on display last month when vandals ripped out more than half the slats on the bridge of the fort. Within 24 hours Michael Soule, universally known as Dink, had repaired the damage free of charge, with planks kindly donated by Justin Lewis. Our thanks go to both of them for their generosity and prompt response. It helps to restore your faith in human nature that these yobbos sometimes put in doubt. NATS: last throw of the dice By the time you read this the (extended) deadline for comments on NATS’s new flight path proposals will have passed. As you know, the Parish Council has written its own letter of objection as well as signing up to one on behalf of all the Hilltop Villages drawn up by Cholesbury-cum-St Leonards Parish Council. Other local Councils and amenity bodies have also made representations, along with individual Councillors such as Tricia Birchley and with luck every one of you reading this article! Last but not least of course has been the petition, which ended up mustering an impressive 316 signatures representing half the Parish – and has now also been sent on to NATS. Post Office closures? You may know that the government announced plans last year to close up to 2,500 Post Offices out of a network of around 14,000 across the UK. In fact sometimes it seems they are hell-bent on closing almost all of them. Anyway, by the time you read this it should have become clear whether the premises at Great Missenden and South Heath – our nearest now – are in the firing line. If so there will then follow a consultation period during which objections can be made, and the Parish Council will no doubt be making their own – very negative! – views known. |
