macmillan Flower Show
By Anne Kenyon

The next major event of the summer takes place on 19th July at The Lee Manor Park. Last year the weather was beyond all records. We set up the marquee on Friday evening in wellies and prohibited vehicles on the show ground on Saturday. Thank you for showing a true British spirit and supporting the afternoon in spite of the elements. We look forward to a sunny and warm afternoon in 2008!

At present most people are despairing of their flowers and vegetables, but it will be all right on the day, it always is, so let’s have record entries.

The theme is ‘going green’ and the creature competition should not be missed. Please take time to read the rules, as it is disappointing to be disqualified. The stewards are there to help, so please ask if you are unsure. The art tent is an exhibition of work by local artists. Contact Jo Laurie, 863492.

Compete in the fun dog show. Classes are listed in the schedule and proceeds go to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Contact numbers:
Books, John Cameron, 864790
Cakes (for teas), Wendy Robertson, 863739
Bric-a-brac, Reina Free, 837407
Children's tombola, Mary Gould, 837709
For the dance we have booked a much-acclaimed local group, The Boogie Rascals. It is always a fantastic evening with everyone in high spirits and relaxing after the afternoon events. Tickets are £18.00 at The Lee Shop. Make up a table and join in the fun.

A final plea. We need help clearing up after the show, especially on the Sunday morning. It is always left to the same old people!
