By Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council Good news for those in The Lee who like to read but find it difficult to get to bookshops or regular libraries under their own steam. From next month the Bucks CC mobile library service is to make an additional stop in front of the Parish Hall-cum-shop, probably now the most popular meeting point for the whole of the parish! The van will be there on alternate Mondays between 10 am and 10:30 am. The new stop is a result of the latest review of the service, which also came out in favour of retaining the stop at the Old Swan at Swan Bottom, which had been under threat. The van will continue to stop there on alternate Mondays, but at the slightly later time of 10:40 am – 11:05 am. Further details in next month’s Newsletter.
Facelift for War MemorialIf you’ve taken a look at the War Memorial on the Green recently you may have noticed that it’s looking a bit worse-for-wear: many of the inscriptions are now very difficult to read and much of the stonework is dirty and splattered with moss. I recently had a letter from something called the War Memorials Trust which offers grants of 50% towards restoration work of this kind and at its meeting last month the Parish Council agreed to earmark up to £1,000 for the project in next year’s budget. Unfortunately getting the requisite number of estimates and jumping through the various other administrative hoops threatens to be a long process, so the aim is to have the new-look memorial ready for Remembrance Sunday next year rather than this! Your chance to face the law Just to give advance notice that we are hoping to have PC Melvin Mutch, our local community support officer, as a speaker at the next Parish Council meeting on 11th November. Come along and ask him about crime… speeding… and any other law and order issue close to your heart! |
