By Colin Sully Have you noticed how The Lee is becoming increasingly full of surprises? Let’s face it, in a traditional English village, you expect to find an ancient church, a traditional flower show, a cricket club, a couple of good pubs… and even a few eccentrics and a gossipy newsletter! But where else would you also find a brand new ‘against-all-the-odds’ village shop being built in an area surrounded by supermarkets, or Sharia and Shalom in such a quintessentially English parish, or people dodging the mud on their way to a black-tie concert by the village choir… and even a kidnapping? Not even in Ambridge, I suggest! This month, to bless our Newsletter, we have something old (including some interesting reminiscences from past residents), something new (a kidnapping and the latest on the village website), something borrowed (a church bell in a wheelbarrow!) and even something blue (by Tricia Birchley). All you have to do is sit back and enjoy! As you do so, please also give some thought to the plea for help on the Newsletter. Finally, a reminder that to make it easier to submit material to the Newsletter we have now introduced a single email address to which material should be sent each month: theleenewsletter@googlemail.com. Our thanks to all of you who used it for this edition, it does help enormously. If you have articles on paper for the November edition, then please send them to Viv Robins at Crocketts, Crocketts Lane, Lee Common. All contributions by 8th October please. |
