Your Letters
The BugleTo the Editor It is a few years since my last visit to Lee Common. My family used to own the Bugle and I believe it was in our family for about 120 years. They also had the shop and the bakery. When I last saw the Bugle I could not believe what I saw. It made me feel somewhat sad to see it as it is now. My grandmother used to be the landlady and my father and aunts also used to run the pub, the bakery and the shop. Frank J. Holloway (Received by email) The picture appears by permission of
the Buckinghamshire County Museum. Thanks… To the Editor May we, through the Newsletter, say many thanks to all those who looked for Pat in her recent wanderings. Pat’s family Lee Common Hope and prayer
To the EditorBy the time you read this letter, the Harvest Festival will be upon us and the hymn ‘All is safely gathered in’ will be drifting away over hills and dales. But now, as I am writing this letter the wheat, oats and barley still have to be harvested. The soil is through and through wet; the ears of corn wearily bend their heads; even the badger has deserted his trail. On a faraway hillside a tractor stands alone, unmoving and my heart is full of concern for our farmers and their families. I do hope that those who regularly go to church will pray and cry out to God to stop the rain and bring back the warmth of the sun. For only He can bless the hard labour of our farmers.
