The Marchams at Manor Lodge
By Maurice Salter

In the March 2008 Newsletter, you kindly published a letter of mine recounting my family’s history at Manor Lodge in the early part of the last century when my grandfather, Frederick Marcham, was coachman for Sir Arthur Liberty.
Frederick, his wife Ellen and all of their children worked in the Manor House or the grounds.

I am now enclosing copies of some old photos taken at The Manor Lodge. The pictures, all taken at The Lodge, show:
  • My grandmother Ellen Marcham
  • Mother Mabel and Aunt
  • Ellen and Mabel
Note the small circular window in the wall of Manor Lodge. My mother told me that as a young girl it was her responsibility to watch through that window for the arrival of her father and Sir Arthur Liberty’s coach, then to dash out to open The Manor gates.
