Lee Common School
By Arabella Norton

The School was again fortunate to have a wonderful autumnal morning for its annual walk to church for its Harvest Festival. The sight of the children walking, crocodile fashion, the quarter of a mile to church is very memorable and this active start is certainly a major contributor to the overall enjoyment of the occasion.

shop The Revd David Burgess greeted the children as they arrived at the church and, once the large congregation was settled, the service began. The children had been busy learning Harvest songs and poems since the beginning of term and they sang and recited them all beautifully. They also listened attentively whilst David Burgess explained to them about the meaning of Harvest.

Special thanks must go the staff who worked so hard in preparing the children for this service. Thanks are also due to Mrs Kenyon and helpers who are responsible for the decoration of the church and the post-festival distribution of Harvest gifts. If you know of anyone who should be receiving these, but who is not known to Mrs Kenyon, please could you contact her via the school office.

We must also say thank you to Mrs Chinnery who is sadly due to retire from her post as classroom assistant after half-term. However, we are delighted to welcome in her place Judith Goldby, who will be doing four days per week and four lunchtime supervisor duties. We are also pleased to report that Natasha Garood is doing a week’s work experience with us before half-term.

We are also delighted that Bea Buisson and Max Haynes have kindly volunteered to be our new LCSA joint Chairs. They have begun work already on another spectacular Christmas fair, to be held on 29th November from 2:00 to 5:00 pm – so start getting excited now!

Finally, the school is in the fortunate position of being able to give away six trestle benches, all the old stage blocks and a suede-topped gymnastic box. If you would like any or all of these items please contact Mrs Taberer at the school office on 837267.
