Editor or team? From the Editor
By Viv Robins

I write this during turbulent times, with global markets currently teetering on the brink of meltdown (or at least they were on the One o’ clock news). A welcome word then from our finance guru Tony Rigby, who assures me that The Lee Newsletter has no money invested with Landsbanki, our policy of having no money at all appearing finally to have paid off. Incidentally it looks as if Chiltern District Council was one of the comparatively few local authorities in the South-East which did not have money invested with Landsbanki either, so all credit to them (as it were).

Anyway if despite this reassurance you are sitting round feeling crushed or even crunched by credit, let this edition of the Newsletter provide the  antidote: hours of entertainment (well, depends how fast you read really) and all completely free. You don’t have to buy priceless jewels: you can read about them in Trish Swain’s account of the latest Swan Bottom Ladies’ outing. You can also vicariously experience the delights of the Harvest Festival, the huge success of the annual fund-raiser for Macmillan Cancer Care and even the adrenalin surge that comes from a spot of sky-diving.

You can admire the new-look Well and tennis courts, and of course the countdown to the new-look shop – being accompanied by a huge expansion in the range of goods on offer, as Sally Knowles explains – will already be well under way when you  read this.

Gilbert Nockles will be in the Editor’s chair next month, so please send material by 12th November to theleenewsletter@googlemail.com or, if on paper, to Gilbert at Mapleton, Potter Row (862191).
